Olympics Days
Last week we had what is know as Olympics Days here at Dakar Academy. It is very similar to what many may know as Field Days where students are involved in many track and field events over a period of a couple of days. Michelle and I were involved in much of the behind the scenes work that went into preparing for the big events. We spent many hours working on data entry and changing forms when necessary to accommodate new students that needed to be added. It was quite a bit of work but it was also very fun for us. We were also involved in helping out with the actual events on the day that most of the Field events happened. I (David) helped in judging/counting the Jump Rope event. It was pretty fun and actually it was exciting because we had some record breaking jumpers. Michelle was assigned to help out with supervising the 8-9 year olds as they went from event to event. She did a great job with that and after she finished she came over and helped with Jump Rope for a while. We did that for the morning then we moved on to watching some events. The High Jump was particularly fun to watch. We also enjoyed the Long Jump and the Shot Put. I was however disappointed that they have done away with the Triple Jump which was one of my favorite events when I was here as a student. Michelle was among the many (I didn’t know their were many) who hated Olympics Days when she was here. I never realized that were actually people who didn’t like P.E... And especially not a whole day or two of school dedicated solely to fun stuff like High Jump and Discus. Who knew?
I'm going to have to side with Michelle on this one!
