Outreach Weekend

This past weekend Dakar Academy sent out a team of young men to put a roof on a church which was partially built by another team from Dakar Academy. We worked two very long days putting the roof up. There were many snags with the materials (this is after all still Africa). It was amazing though to see God working through these young men. They all worked with passion and without complaints. We were very proud of them all. There is a small body of believers at the church and we are believing that in the near future the church will continue to grow. It will be exciting to see what God will do their in the months to come. We may be returning again to do more projects in the area.

We all worked really hard to try to get the job done. Posted by Hello

These steel trusses were quite heavy and at one point a truss slipped and almost hit one of the kids. God was with us and protected us from any major injuries. Posted by Hello

A typical Senegalese meal (Ceeb Yapp) is basically rice, meat, and vegetables. Everyone gathers around the bowl and just digs in with spoons or with their hands. The food on this trip was fantastic! Posted by Hello

The team showed evangelistic films on each of the two nights in the nearby village. The kids really loved it and there were actually a lot of adults standing in the back who are not pictured here. Posted by Hello

We spent much of our time there standing on scafolding or on the roof itself. Posted by Hello

I was pretty beat at this point. We had worked two very long days and we had a fairly rough night of sleep. Posted by Hello

We had a good service in this new structure. Posted by Hello

New Rally Photos

Below are some of my photos from the Dakar Rally. It started in Barcelona on the 1st of January. The race goes through 5 countries before going into Senegal and finally ending near Dakar at Pink Lake on day 16. It is quite a race and these photos only capture the very last bit of it.

American Nascar Driver Robby Gordon Did Quite Well In The Race. This Was My Favorite Photo. After This He Nearly Hit Me. Posted by Hello

The Trucks Really Are Amazing... They Are So Big And Seemingly Clumbsy That You Can't Imagine Them Racing In The Same Conditions As The Bikes And Cars. Posted by Hello

I Really Liked These British Rally Vehicles. I Think They Are Modified Rovers Of Some Sort. Posted by Hello

VW Had A Good Showing At "The Dakar" This Year. This Was One Of The Highly Modified Touaregs. Posted by Hello

We Enjoyed The Bikes A Lot... Somtimes They Were A Bit Scary Though Because Their Back End Would Get A Little Squirly. Posted by Hello

Dakar Rally

This sunday we have a very exciting activity with the dorm kids... we are going to The Dakar Rally. It is the rally formerly known as the The Paris-Dakar. This year it started in Barcelona and is ending at Pink Lake here in Senegal. The race includes rally cars, motorcycles, pick-ups, and large trucks. It is an incredible race and this is a really cool thing for the kids to see. For more info visit: http://www.dakar.com/2005/us/index.html. It is not the greatest website but does have some info and some fun photos.

Ngaporou

We just returned from our Christmas break vacation in Ngaporou. We stayed with a misisonary family at a nice little house on the beach. It was a bit rustic (no hot water, salt water as running water, etc) but very enjoyable.
