MK Birthday Gifts

This morning we had a birthday breakfast for tow of our seniors in the dorm who are twins. It was very interesting that the girl gave her brother Gatorade, Chocolate Cookies and some other food itmes. It isn't that these things are not available here but they can be a little expensive. So it was a very nice gift. It is just funny sometimes when you see someone gettting Gatorade as a birthday gift and you think "Oh, how thoughtful of her to get such a nice gift." For these kids it is normal and it is becoming more and more normal every day for us...

Staying In Africa

We are very happy to inform all our readers that we have accepted an offer to stay at Dakar Academy as dorm parents for a new Middle School Girl's Dorm that is to be opening in the fall of 2006. We are very excited for this new opportunity to serve here in Senegal. It will of course be different from what we are doing now in that we will have one specific group of about 9 girls to look after instead of changing dorms every day. We have enjoyed being the relief dorm parents and giving the other dorm parents their days off and it is because of that position that I think this will be a very natural transition for us. We have had a chance to learn much about dorm parenting in the past 2 school years so we feel prepared for this. Both of were perfectly ready to go home to the states and we were actually very excited about being there this next year. However, when this option was opened and we began praying about it we started feeling a real draw towards continuing here at this school. The hardest part of dong missions is as always being separated from family and we would all appreciate your prayers as we take on another year away from family and friends. God is great and has shown Himself to be so in our lives. We do confidently believe that He has directed our paths toward this point in a way that in our wisdom alone we cannot comprehend yet He directs us in His wisdom.

Changes On The Horizon

Well, we have nearly reached the end of our 2 year commitment here at Dakar Academy as Relief Dorm Parents. We have been offered a position which will keep us in Africa for at least another year and quite possibly more. At this point we have been asked not to discuss the position so I will post something later on this weekend with more information regarding our future plans. We are excited for what is ahead!
