Bad Ankle

This past Thursday one of our girls fell down some stairs and badly twisted her ankle. This was actually the second time she did this on the same ankle and the same stairs. This time we thought it best to take her in for X-Rays. Nothing is simple in Africa so the process of getting downtown and finding the X-Rays took a little while. Once we got that done the Doctor sent us to another clinic to get a cast put on. It seems that in younger adolescents it is best to completely immobilize the ankle with this kind of injury because of issues related to growth. The poor thing was not too happy because all the girls were getting ready to go on a trip to the beach the next day. Please pray for Felicity as she learns how to deal with this inconvenience.

Game Night

Our dorm occasionally does a game night for our devotional time so that we can have fun together as a family and enjoy some dorm bonding. This past sunday evening we did this in a different way. We decided to do "speed games."

This meant that you only had 2 minutes to play one of several board games. At the end of the 2 minutes you had to get up and switch to someone else's game where they left off. The girls had a good time with and we had a great time watching them.

Piano Recital

Two of our dorm girls had a piano recital a couple of weekends ago. They both did a really great job and we were really proud of them. One is actually going on to teach piano next year. They are great kids and we love them very much. Please keep praying for our girls as they will be going through a transition next year since they will be getting new dorm parents.

David & Michelle at the Conference

ICEC | Kandern

Well, we just arrived Thursday from ICEC (International Christian Educator's Conference) and then we had a day of rest (yeah, right more like a day of cleaning). Saturday night the girls arrived and now we are back at it. Life is good here. We were instructed and inspired at the conference and God really spoke to us through the various sessions and workshops. One thing we really came away with loud and clear was that this is a great place and that this is the place that God wants us to be. It is an honor to serve Him and to minister here to missionary families as well as our Muslim friends.

Spring Is Near

As anyone who tries to keep up with this blog knows it is not very easy for me to remember to update it. I try and try but then something gets in the way. I think tomorrow is going to be the new day that will really make a difference and I will get this done. It isn't that I don't think about it or have things to say. I just get distracted or busy and I forget. So now it is almost spring and the last you heard from me it was just turning winter. This all got me thinking about how similar this can be to my (and probably your) walk with God. We are well aware of it. We think of things to say and do with Him but at the end of every day we think "Oh, shoot. I really meant to..." But just like whatever few readers I still have out there He is anxiously awaiting to hear from me. It is so easy to put things off sometimes because you know that you can always do it later. But where is that passion that I had when I first starting this blog? I love the way that The Message says this about Caleb:

"But my servant Caleb—this is a different story. He has a different spirit; he follows me passionately. I'll bring him into the land that he scouted and his children will inherit it.

Spring is time of renewal. I am not going to make any more promises about keeping up with this blog weekly. I will update it as I think about it and I will try to think of it often. What I can say is that I will strive to reach that passion of Caleb. I want to be part of a "different story." I want that "different spirit" that follows passionately.

Spring is near. It's time for change.

Curfew

Some of you don't know us all that well so I will start by telling you a little bit about us. We HATE confrontations. Both of us are scared to death of confronting people (even Junior High girls). So what are we supposed to do with 9 girls that are often in need of confrontation? Tonight it was a curfew issue. I had to talk to a girl about coming in late. Michelle and I sat in our apartment talking about the issue while I tried feverishly to make every excuse in mind why I might not have to actually talk to this girl about being late and especially not give her a punishment. But I bit down on the bullet and went out there and talked to her. She was very responsive and everything went fine. Everyday I learn a little more and love these MKs a little more.

Posting Again

We have been inactive on here for quite a while due to being on Christmas break which means that we were working on the dorm some and also relaxing some. All our girls are back plus one new girl. She is not new to the school but is new to the boarding program. Things are going very well. Please continue to pray for us as we minister to these young ladies. Our next post will probably be about the Dakar Rally since we are taking our girls to that on Sunday.
