A Peek Inside The Mind Of An MK

Tonight as we were sitting around after devotions talking to one of the girls, whose parents had just arrived back from the States, she said that she had some new cleats. I said I would like to see them because I think new shoes (especially cleats) are kind of cool. When she came out all of us without any consideration immediately dug our noses directly into the shoes. Was this some weird fascination with smelly feet? Was it some kind of a ritual known only to MKs? Well, not exactly... You see new shoes smell like the States (specifically Wal-Mart according to one 10th grader). It brought me back to the times when we would get a Plen-T-Pak of Juicy Fruit and we would enjoy the smell of the plastic wrapping and the wonderful scent of the gum almost as much as we enjoyed chewing it (about one piece every 1 - 2 weeks). The same was true of anything from toys to office supplies that mom and dad would get in; we had to stick our little noses right up to it sometimes but we could sniff out America. The girls ended up sitting there for a while discussing the smell of Wal-Mart and of course some small talk about how useful the new cleats would be.
