Cholera Outbreak

We recently found out that there has been a Cholera outbreak in our area. There have been close to 30 cases in one particular neighborhood. Please pray that all of the students, staff, and national workers will avoid this outbreak.

Soccer

I (David) am going to start assistant coaching soccer for the Intermediate Boys soccer team tomorrow. The team will consist of mostly middle school boys and some younger high school boys ranging in ages from 12-15 years old. I am very excited about it but I am nervous because I have never coached soccer and I don't really know that much about the technique and how to run practices. It will be a good time to learn how to coach from the primary coach. This will also be a good chance to get to know some of the dorm kids better (as it turns out mostly dorm kids are trying out). Wish me luck...

Brownies

Last night our middle school boys came in at curfew and informed us that they would need to bake something for a party in their French class. They needed to make enough for about 50 people! We were of course very surprised and a little annoyed by them telling us this at this time of night. We already had two cakes in the oven and another one that was waiting to go in. We told them they could make two pans of brownies but they would have to do all the work including putting the dishes away that the dish crew did not finish putting away earlier ( why not right?). They complained a little and of course fought over who would get to the "fun jobs" but they actually did a fine job and we ended up getting some of the dishes we had been using for baking the snack and breakfast washed by the kids. Everything worked out fine and in the end we had fun.

Hard Drive Problems

I am having problems with my hard drive so I have not been posting for the past few days. I hope to have the issue solved (at least temporarily) soon.

Time For Some Fun

Ok, no need to try to catch up on the long period since the last post. I will just start fresh and hopefully do better at keeping the posts more regular. Today I (David) went spear fishing for the first time since I left Senegal over ten years ago. I caught two fish! We hired a Pirogue (Senegalese all purpose boat) to take us out to an area where there are many shipwrecks and a lighthouse which obviously was built much too late. It was quite a distance from the shore and the waves were very choppy but we made it out and back unharmed. It was really great even though the fish I caught, which looked absolutely huge in the water, turned out to be only 8 - 10 inches long (let's just say 10" since we are missionaries now). In any case it was a great time and I will definitely be going back to do that. On another fun note, we went to the beach this past Sunday and I was able to surf a wave until it died out on me! That was the first time I have ever been able to actually stand for that long. We do actually do some work around here but we occasionally need some fun too!
